Abstract

Introduction: Fetal macrosomia represents an ongoing challenge in obstetrics because of the risk of shoulder dystocia leading to transient or permanent fetal and maternal injury. Non-diabetic macrosomia remains an obstetric dilemma because there is no clear consensus regarding its prediction and antepartum management. Objective: To identify and analyze the maternal risk factors that could influence the birth of macrosomic products of non-diabetic mothers, attended at the General Hospital of Tampico "Dr. Carlos Canseco". Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive and observational study was carried out from October 2021 to March 2022 in the General Hospital of Tampico "Dr. Carlos Canseco". The study included 30 files of non-diabetic mothers with macrosomic product.  Results: Fasting plasma glucose was 100.6 ± 60.9 mg/dL. The BMI of the patients at the end of gestation was 33.1 ± 4.7 kg/m2. Regarding risk factors, 60% had a family history of diabetes in a first-degree relative. Conclusion: The most prevalent risk factors were maternal and paternal obesity, having a male product and a family history of first-degree diabetes.
